(have you been? you should go.)

at my former employer - a big trad agency - there was a guy who was very obviously an incredibly capable and smart. summa cum laude ivy league MBA. and a very nice personable guy. he was passed over for promotion in favor of a political buffoon. he immediately quit. guess where he ended up? that's right , google. they reward ability. advertising doesn't really reward on any front anymore.

working at google is exciting and happening. working at an ad agency is soul-sucking misery by comparison. and you don't have a chance in hell of getting rich. unless you're john wren.

google is already eating our lunch. and will continue to do so. they're selling science. they have a machine and it works.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8106820546854003223.post-46090272395759538822007-09-19T14:32:00.000-04:002007-09-19T14:32:00.000-04:00Forget Google and Andy Berndt, the threat the trad...Forget Google and Andy Berndt, the threat the trade press should really be worried about is that pesky Mike Ovitz and his CAA cohorts, I tell you. If those guys get into Advertising, why, it'll be the end of Advertising as we know it, it'll change everything, it'll be a whole new world, a whole new business model...oh, wait...um, the whole Ovitz thing was like, over a decade and several billion dollars of conglomerate profit ago wasn't it? Yeah. And what's that you say? Nothing really came of it despite a good year (or so it seemed) of trade press handwringing? Yeah, now that you mention it, you're right. OK. Cool. Sorry about that, dudes. My bad.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
